Subtle Ways to Actually Rule Over Your Cat

Author: Terry Price

If you are an allergy sufferer and you have a favorite feline companion, here are a few tips for minimizing cat dander and other microscopic flakes of dried saliva on the cats skin which cause allergies. Brushing your cat daily and bathing it weekly will make a tremendous difference in the dander level in your home. It may be a good idea to ask a nonallergic housemate or friend to do the cat maintenance. If you have a favorite veterinarian, request a spray for kitties coat that will minimize the dander. Also, an investment in a good room air purifier will help a lot. Replacing your fabric drapes and curtains with solid blinds, and your carpeting and rugs with hardwood floors or tile is very helpful.

Cats love to sharpen their claws, so try to minimize the amount of overstuffed furniture in your home. Vacuuming on a regular basis with a cleaner that is equipped with a Hepa filter is a good idea. Investing in a good air purification appliance, such as an ionic air purifier or an ozone air purifier will help tremendously. Alpine air systems or Honeywell make a good unit.

Wiping your walls and flat surfaces on a regular basis and making your bedroom off-limits to your kitty-cat will make a difference. Another excellent idea is to ask your allergist about making a serum from a sample of your cat's hair. If you would like to become a cat owner, consider getting a shorthaired kitty instead of a long-haired one as they tend to have less dander. A couple of breeds that are popular are the Sphynx or the Rex breed. Before you adopt a kitty, it is a good idea to ask the breeder if you can spend a couple of hours around the cats to test your allergic reactions. You want to enjoy your feline friend as they make an excellent companion! Most of all remember to place your air purifier in a central place, instead of in a corner somewhere.
